You want to know what’s even worse than your oldest turning into a teenager?  Your baby turning 8.  I thought since I’ve been to 8 two times before it wasn’t going to be such a big deal.  But each year he gets older, it stays being hard.  I mean, he’s getting old, I’m getting older.  It’s just not fair.  I signed up for babies.  While I’m pretty happy being diaper-free, no more middle-of-the-night feedings, no having to worry about nap time (wait-I do kind of miss nap time), none of my kids stayed babies long enough.  I was robbed!

At any rate, Jacob turned 8 in March.  Here’s is official birth minute photo (in the car waiting to go into school)…

He was so excited for his birthday, counting down all month, telling his friends (and teacher) all month how many days til his birthday.  His birthday fell on a Thursday which is when he enjoyed his star cake and presents and Skype calls.

IMG_0007Jacob’s party was on a Saturday and he wanted it to be easy.  Jumping at the local trampoline center with his buddies (and his sisters and mom and dad), and pizza at home.  So that’s what we did.  We jumped for 2 hours!  Then we had pizza and enjoyed his Minecraft cake.  He actually sat down beside me when I was looking on pinterest for ideas.  He picked this one out.  He also supervised the making of the fondant figures to make sure they were correct.  I mean, I don’t know what a creeper is.

A few days before his big birthday, Jacob and I went to the music store to have him fitted for his birthday present from us.  An acoustic guitar.  He’s been wanting to take lessons so we decided that turning 8 would be a good time.  We picked out a guitar that was his size, paid for the first month of lessons, and we were on our way with a pretty big smile on our face!

The day after his big party was our annual mom and son date.  I so look forward to this every year.  We were going to go for breakfast and then to a movie but he decided the night before that he didn’t think he could wait to eat breakfast at the restaurant.  So we opted for a movie and then lunch.  We saw Home in 3D (which was such a fun movie) and ate at Chili’s.

We also took his 8 year pictures.

Yep, he’s all grown up!  We love you, Jacob.

Teenager

So in January, yes I’m aware of how long it’s been since January was here, Mazie decided she could just up and turn 13.  Just like that.  Overnight.  No warning, no asking, she just went and did it.

I’m still in denial…that’s why I haven’t blogged it.  It seems like if I put it up here, it’s real.  Nevermind the fact that it really is true and Mazie is actually a great teen.  Nevermind the fact that I don’t want it to be true even though it is.  I’m not ready.  But anyone who knows Mazie knows that it didn’t matter if I was ready or not.  She was doing it anyway.

So here you go.  All her birthday wonderfulness.  13 years.  Man, she’s old! 😉

We will start with her birth minute photo…

The littles got in the celebrating too.  They can’t give her all the attention…

IMG_0036

We had a small party at the local trampoline place.  She invited a few friends and it was just perfect.

Her annual dad/daughter date.  They went to breakfast this year and then to see a movie.

So part of her turning into the teens, we decided to make it a bit more special for her and let her go to my hair salon.  The lady who does my hair was so excited to meet Mazie and get to know her.  Mazie was over the moon excited when I had made her appointment.  She was so tickled with the fact that she was pampered for an hour.  I almost cried when I saw her come around the corner.  I held it in, though and just smiled and how beautiful she is.

So there you have it.  It’s official.  Even if it was already all over facebook and instagram since January.  It’s officially official now that it’s been blogged.  Mazie’s 13 and still amazing.  We love you Mazie!

Ten on Tuesday

1.  Easter was pretty laid back here.  Pretty uneventful which is just the way we like it.  The kids searched for eggs…in their jammies…

2.  That’s just how we egg-rolled this year.  (sorry, I couldn’t resist)

3.  Pop Pop arrived and it’s been non-stop since.  If you are friends with me on facebook or follow me on twitter, you know there was a lot going on this weekend.

4.  Jamie’s birthday party was this weekend.  We celebrated her 10th (*sigh*) birthday at Color Me Mine in Ogden.  We had a grand time.  The one serious picture I took and Jamie’s eyes were closed…

so we took a silly one too…

5.  The kids colored their pieces and then they were sent to the back to get glazed and baked.  Then they enjoyed birthday cake with Olaf on top…

6.  I’m still at a loss because tonight, on her birthday eve, I have no idea how this…

7.  Jamie and Jeremiah went on their annual date too.  They went to see Rio 2 (which Jamie highly recommends) and to eat at Olive Garden.  She told us when she arrived home that there was no way she was going to fit into her wedding dress next week if she didn’t stop eating!

8.  Today was a fun day for our family.  The kids stayed home from school so they wouldn’t be late for Jeremiah’s promotion ceremony.  Since his promotion to Lt. Col is official May 1, he just couldn’t take away from Jamie’s birthday tomorrow so he decided to take off tomorrow and do the ceremony today.  The kids loved putting on his new rank and were so proud of dad.  Pictures to come since I didn’t pick up my camera during the ceremony.   Hopefully the photographer there got some good ones.

9.  So tomorrow we have 2 tweens in the house and a newly promoted Lt. Col.  Big changes going on around here.

10.  That is all for now.  I have to update the Stahrs Cakes blog and hope to do it soon.  Stay tuned!

Happy Tuesday!

Disneyland

Well, here we are almost a month after our big trip to Disneyland and I’ve only just finished editing the photos.  It’s been rough but they are done and now ready to post!  So bear with me…it’s gonna be a big one.  I’m starting with seeing our friends first.   First we visited at the Laughrey’s where the Shertzers, Pikes, and (at least a few of them) Bolanders joined us.  It was great aside from the crazy rain storm.

I’m always amazed at how the kids just kind of pick up where they left off when we see each other.  Like there weren’t years in between visits, just a days.  They all had a blast and it was great to see everyone in one place.  After a day at Valley park in Hermosa beach,we ended our week at the Shertzer’s house and tagged along to the beach…

While Amy did her thing, the girls, well, I’m not sure what they were doing but I’m sure Amy made them look great!

We headed back to Amy’s house where we joined by the Laughrey girls for a yummy dinner (and for those of you who know Amy and how well she cooks, you know that yummy is an understatement!).

When we planned this trip, we decided to stay at the Disneyland Hotel so that we could stay longer at the parks.  We were able to see the fireworks and water shows.  Which was worth the extra cash for the resort! Plus the parks were within walking distance. One morning we went to Goofy’s Kitchen for breakfastand characters joined us throughout our meal to say “Hi” or mess with Jamie’s hair…The wait staff brought Jacob a birthday treat which was a huge surprise to him…We headed to Disneyland where we celebrated Jacob’s birthday at The Carnation Inn.  Pat E. Cake hosted the party by singing and dancing while the guests decorated their very own cakes.  Jacob then joined a parade of birthday kids that ended with meeting Micky and Minnie.

Jacob said it was the “best birthday ever” and is already making plans for next year.  Here is the rest of our visit at Disneyland and California Adventure in pictures…

So there you have it.  Our Spring break trip.  We had so much fun and enjoyed every minute of it!

Ten On Tuesday

1.  Jacob turned 5 last week and it’s time to I post about it.

2.  While we were in California for his birthday (I will be posting about that another day), we did come home to have a little family celebration and for him to have his star cake…3.  He was pretty happy to have his chocolate cake with chocolate icing…and us singing…4.  Then it was time to dive into the presents…5.  Being 5 means you get a big bike…6.  He even obliged me by letting me snap a few of his fiveness…

7.  Also turning 5 means you start the “annual date”.  I was so excited about it.  The girls have so much fun with Dad when they go out and I wanted that so badly with Jacob.  I apparently made him nervous about it.  Oops!  He recovered and got excited too.  He made Jeremiah take him to Costco to pick out some flowers, washed the car, and knocked on the door so I had to answer and let him in.  He was a true gentleman…8.  He told me I looked nice as we walked out to the car.  He even held my hand.  When we got to Zio’s (his choice), he asked me to open the door and then he held it open for me.  We were seated and he decided what he wanted to eat.  We ordered and then played a couple of games of tic tac toe while we waited.  While we were eating, we talked about chickens and roosters, desserts, his presents, and the rain to name a few things.  We ordered dessert and chatted a bit more.  When we left he opened and held the door for me and a couple of other customers.  He was so sweet.  I think he had a lot of fun.  I know I did.

9.  I am pretty sure that date meant more to me than it did to him in all of his fiveness.  But I still have a few years, right?

10.  When we got home, Jacob allowed Jeremiah to take a couple of pictures of us together.  This is my favorite…

Happy Tuesday!

Ten On Tuesday

1.  Our final outing over Christmas break was to the Denver Aquarium.  It was snowing by the time we got to Denver and when we were ready to leave, there was already about 3 inches of snow on the ground.  It took 2 1/2 hours to get home when it should have been about an hour!

2.  No worries though.  Jeremiah handled it well!  I never dry in that stuff if I don’t have to.

3.  The kids were fond of the fish and things we saw.  The tarantula was a favorite…

and these two bearded dragons…I wonder what they were saying to each other…

and this sting ray was smiling at me, I think…

You had to know I was going to include a Stahr Fish…

4.  My loves all on the bridge…

5.  Check out Jacob’s face.  It makes me laugh every time I see this picture.  Especially since he is so close to the mermaid’s chest.

6.  Tomorrow Mazie turns 9.  NINE YEARS, people!  How the heck did that happen?

7.  I was just thinking about when I was carrying her in my belly.  I had back labor on this night all those years ago.  I decided to take a hot shower and go to bed.  At 2:30am that labor started up again with a vengeance and later that evening arrived a beautiful, squeaky (yes, she kind of squeaked instead of cried)little girl.  *sigh*

8.  She wants to wait until tomorrow after supper to open all her presents!

9.  Jamie is the official Light Operator tomorrow night.  Don’t know what a Light Operator is?  Well, I’ll tell you it’s a big job!  She is in charge of turning out the lights at just the right moment and starts the singing.  Then she has to turn the lights on at the exact right moment so no one drops any cake or gets scared in the dark!  She is super excited.

10.  Jacob thinks tomorrow is when he turns four and gets to open presents.  He will be very happy for Mazie when she is finished with all her things and he gets to play with her…if she lets him!

Happy Tuesday

Birthday and Christmas

Saturday was my birthday.  So the kids (and Jeremiah and my dad) took me out to eat for an early supper but I had to open presents first!

When we got back we had an angel food cake made by my dear husband!  He did a great job even if it didn’t rise like it should have and I stayed out of kitchen.  I had a lovely day of relaxing and my family!

Since my dad left this morning, we decided to have Christmas with him last night so he could see the kids open their presents.

It was nice to be able to see him open our gifts too!

The kids are in a toy utopia right now.  I think the things they opened last night will hold them over until Christmas (I hope)! 😉

More on our visit from Pop Pop later.  Stay tuned!
