Big 4!

Jacob’s birthday was yesterday and it was fantastic.  We had his party at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.  He was so excited.  We first started with checking out the pancake tortoise.  We learned that turtles are the swimmers and tortoises are land walkers.

Then we took a quick walk to the giraffes.  The kids each got a few crackers to feed the giraffes.  They had a blast.

Then we walked over to the meerkats.  There the kids found out that they eat Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches.  Then the kids were asked if they wanted to feed them to the meerkats…

Jamie actually volunteered.  She held one of those things in her hand and then threw it over the glass to the meerkats to feast…

We hiked to the merry-go-round and the kids got to take a ride…

We headed back to the Safari Cabin for pizza and lemonade…

And then it was onto the cake.  Jacob was very specific about his cake order this year.  He wanted it to be chocolate, green, and with giraffes.  I think I delivered (read more here)…

He was pretty happy with everyone singing to him.  And then he blew out all four candles…

We had some time for gifts too.  The best part of that was when Jacob’s Little Red-Haired Girlfriend decided he wasn’t going fast enough.  She started getting the gifts out of the bags and handing them to him!

He didn’t seem to mind at all!  Then I caught her slightly touching his arm while he was opening a card.  I’m pretty sure that smile has nothing to do with the card! 🙂

The party was over and the kiddos went home with their parents.  We decided to let the kids pick an animal each to see before we headed home.  I even got in a little photo shoot of my newly 4-year-old at his favorite place…

I didn’t say all the photos were worthy of hanging on the wall…

Jacob enjoyed a few phone calls…

and a few more gifts when we got home…

Then he agreed to snap a few more pictures with his biggest fans…

Happy 4th Birthday, Big Boy! We love you!!

Mazie Monday

Since Mazie’s birthday fell on a weekday, she had her big party on Saturday.  This meant there are way too many photos to share here so I did a little collage that sums up the few days of birthday celebrating going on around here.

1. Mazie’s favorite cake, strawberry with strawberry icing. We had cupcakes while she enjoyed her star. 2. The birthday banner. 3. Yep, she’s nine! 4. Loving that Pop Pop was on skyping, singing along with the rest of us. 5. Blowing out all 9 candles. 6. Excited for her new mini-laptop. 7. She had a lot of funny expressions while opening gifts.  This one was the best! 8. Pop Pop joining us on skype! 9. Mazie jumping into the pit at Ariel’s gym. 10. Jacob rolling one of Mazie’s friends in the ball. 11. Jamie enjoying a ride on the rope swing. 12. Mazie with THE boy *sigh*. 13. Jacob enjoying extra attention from Mazie’s friend. 14. The relay race that Mazie’s team one! 15. THE boy. 16. The Mickey Birthday cake (see more of this on the cake site).

Now onto the date.  I feel this deserves its own special attention since it’s, well, special.  Mazie looks forward to her date with dad every year.  This year she understood that he has been teaching her how a boy should treat her on a date (in the distant future, of course).  So it wasn’t just about spending time with dad (although she was really looking forward to that part of it too), she waiting for him to open doors for her instead of rushing to do it herself.  She let him treat her like a lady!

Plus she was really looking forward to whether the flowers she was expecting would be pink!  I can’t believe she’s nine.

I pity the boy who doesn’t come to the door with at least one flower in his hand for her.  I also pity him if he doesn’t treat her well.  Actually, I don’t really pity him.  He just doesn’t get another chance, I think.  She won’t go out with him if he doesn’t show some chivalry right away!  That’s how it should be, right?

 Happy Mazie Monday!

Just One

Just one today of my newly 9-year-old.  This is taken in her birth minute of 5:39pm.  And she was squeaking tonight like she did when she was born!

Ok, one more to show how proud she is that she’s nine!

I love you, Mazie Moo.  I hope you day was as special for you as it was to me!

Jeremiah’s Birthday

Today Jeremiah is no longer able to taunt me about being 5 weeks older.  He had his turn today!  Now we are the same age.   The kids gave him lots of birthday kisses.  Sometimes at the same time…

And they each gave him their handmade cards and fun gifts.  The surest way to let everyone know what is inside a gift or package is to let Jacob know.  So that’s why he had no idea what was inside when Dad asked what was in the box…

I think Jacob was just as excited to open presents as Dad was!  After a yummy dinner of homemade lasagna, it was onto the cake.   And the kids belted out “happy birthday” while Dad prepared for blowing out the candles…

Jeremiah’s favorite is red velvet with peanut butter icing.

Happy Birthday, Jeremiah!  We love you!!

Ten On Tuesday

1.  All the kids have started back to school and it has been quiet!  The girls started back yesterday and Jacob started back today.  I love school!

2.  Now if only I could get school to start for my husband before January 18.  Just kidding. I love you, hunny! 😉

3.  Jeremiah did start his big project today.  Operation Get The Basement Organized!  It actually looks so much better and he’s not even half way done.

4.  I know Christmas is over and we’ve had our tree and decorations down since the day after Christmas but we’re still singing the song.  Probably will be until June, in fact.

5.  Did you know that Frosty The Snowman carried a roast beef to the billiage?  Yep, that’s right.  Jacob’s version of the beloved song is: Down to the Billiage, with a roast beef in his hand.  It’s simply too funny to correct.  He’ll get it right next year anyway.

6.  He thinks that is what the Chipmunks are singing anyway.  We have the Chipmunks coming out our ears!

7.  We had a lovely New Years Day.  The Egberts came for a traditional pork and sauerkraut meal and we also celebrated Rachel’s birthday!  I made her a topsy-turvy cake.  You can read about it more over at the cake site.

8.  I’ve been told there’s a big birthday coming this weekend.  My dear husband is finally going to be the same age as me and can no longer taunt me about being older (at least until December 4)!

9.  There is another special birthday coming after that.  Mazie called Mickey Mouse on Sunday to let him know she was turning 9.  It was pretty cool how they had it set up.  Mickey even spoke to her.  This is all pretty funny since she couldn’t even hold the phone at Disneyland when she turned 3!  Her name may be scrolling on the birthday list on PlayHouse Disney, if you watch.

10.  I thought maybe I would have a little bit of a vacation when the kids started back to school.  But guess what?  Time doesn’t slow down when you want it to!  Who knew?

Happy Tuesday!

Birthday and Christmas

Saturday was my birthday.  So the kids (and Jeremiah and my dad) took me out to eat for an early supper but I had to open presents first!

When we got back we had an angel food cake made by my dear husband!  He did a great job even if it didn’t rise like it should have and I stayed out of kitchen.  I had a lovely day of relaxing and my family!

Since my dad left this morning, we decided to have Christmas with him last night so he could see the kids open their presents.

It was nice to be able to see him open our gifts too!

The kids are in a toy utopia right now.  I think the things they opened last night will hold them over until Christmas (I hope)! 😉

More on our visit from Pop Pop later.  Stay tuned!
