Ten On Tuesday

1.  This was my valentine from my littlest sweetheart…

2.  I made brownies for dessert that night and decided to make them extra special by cutting them out with a heart cookie cutter…

3.  I also cut cheese with a small heart cookie cutter for Jacob’s party at school and served them along side some pretzel twists.  Jamie had a surprise heart-shaped cheese with her lunch and Mazie had heart-shaped red peppers in her lunch.  It was a heart-y day!

4.  We took the kids bowling for the first time last weekend.  I’m not sure what we were thinking but it turned out to be quite fun.  Plus there was no shame in our (the adults) using the bumpers.  This deserves its own post so pictures will come soon.

5.  The girls had off from school since Friday.  Friday was a “professional development day”, Monday was the holiday, and today was just a day off.  There is no one month during the year where they go every single school day.

6.  Jacob did enjoy his day off with the girls yesterday though.  And he was super excited that they were along to pick him up from school today.  It was as if he had forgotten they had off.  He couldn’t wait to tell them all about his day.  This is funny since I usually only get the run down of what was for snack and if they went outside to play.

7.  I was invited to Ring Dance.  Since I haven’t been there since, um, 1998, I’m assuming I need a nice dress.  Any suggestions on where to get something formal without having to sell the car to pay for it?  I haven’t shopped for a formal dress since I shopped for my wedding gown.   Yeah, we kind of were “busy” when an air force formal thing came up before.  Jeremiah can’t really get out of this one, can he?

8.  I’ve been trying to get Jacob to read for a few months now.  He’s been pretty hesitant since he knows he can’t read like the girls.  I keep trying to explain that the only way he will read like the girls is if he practices but he won’t have anything to do with it.  Today Jamie was looking at his BOB books.  He decided to pick on and sat down with it.  He actually read the words.  He’s been holding out on me, the little stinker.  I have a video but have no idea how to put it on the blog…Anyone?

9.   I can’t wait for The Lorax to come out next weekend.  We are all going to see it on next Saturday.  Anyone else going?

10.  I’m ready for Spring.  Not that we’ve had much snow but I’m ready for the flowers and green grass and afternoons playing outside.

Happy Tuesday!

Ten On Tuesday

1.  Hello?  My name is Megan and it’s been two weeks since I’ve blogged.  There I said it.  Let get on with blogging, shall we?

2.  Every January, Jacob’s preschool has a “Dinner with Dads”.  It’s a spaghetti dinner that the church and teachers put together to celebrate dads since they aren’t in school over Father’s Day.  I have to say that I’m not really sure who was more excited about it…Dad or Jacob.  And, in this house, we have to get the silly one out of the way first…

Aren’t they handsome?  Jacob even wore a shirt with buttons!  Anyone who knows Jacob knows that this is huge for him.  He hates buttons.  So he dressed nicely and even picked out a button shirt for dad to wear.  They went to dinner.  One of Jacob’s teachers took this one…As you can see, the kids had crafts made.  Jacob made a tent and set up a camping area.  The teachers helped him glue his head to figures (pop sticks) and he was fishing and sleeping in the tent!  It sits in Jeremiah’s office at the Academy today.

3.  The girls had a crazy hair day last week.  Jamie opted for 8 pony tails!  Mazie decided to use almost every clip they own and one pony. When they turned around for me to take the picture Mazie giggled at herself and said, “I have no idea why I’m smiling when the camera is behind me.”  When it was bath time, Mazie counted 16 clips and found one when she was washing her hair.  So she used 17!

4.  We’ve adopted Pizza Friday from our good friends in Minnesota.  It’s just easier always knowing what is for supper at least one day a week.  The kids got a little creative the last time I made the dough and opted for shaped pizzas…

There is a small oval cheese pizza, a small diamond cheese pizza without sauce, and a small heart pizza with black olives.  I’ll let you figure out which one when to which kid.

5.  The kids were supposed to have a half day on Friday and it was cancelled due to snow! It was a fun snow day and a three-day weekend.  They even got to play in snow for a little.  It’s mostly gone now though.

6.  The kids had dental appointments last week as well.  They all had great check ups.  No cavities which means they were each able to bang the gong…I was only able to get Jacob doing it and he did take a running start to hit the gong really loud! (which is why he’s blurry)

7.  I am currently reading The 5 Love Languages by Gary D. Chapman.  It’s fascinating and I think it should be read by more people before they get married.  Maybe our country’s divorce rate wouldn’t be so high if they did!  Just sayin’.

8.  I am addicted to Pinterest.  There are so many cute crafty things I want to do but just don’t have the time.  I need an extra day a week just set aside for the things I would love to try.

9.  Does anyone know about the “Cake Bill” here in Colorado?  There are a few representatives that have put together a bill to allow people to sell cakes and cookies out of their home instead of owning a store front.  (Yep, that means I’ve been doing it illegally)  It was passed by the Colorado House of Representatives last week!  It moves onto the Colorado Senate (tentatively) on Friday.  It would be nice to be legitimate for the first time since November 2009!  I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

10.  Jeremiah and I made homemade fortune cookies on Sunday.  His firsties (seniors at the Academy) are getting their bases tomorrow at a dinner.  Jeremiah thought of the idea to put the base coordinates on a strip of paper and put it into the cookie.  I know that he is a dork ;-).  I found a recipe that seemed tasty.  It took almost the whole afternoon since we could do only two at a time but they turned out pretty cool.  The kids had the three that were left over and said they were tasty.

Happy Tuesday!

Ten On Tuesday

1.  Last Thursday, Mazie’s fifth grade class did a Stomp program for their music program.  It was awesome.  Mazie even started one of the songs out…2.  It really rocked.  They did a great job!3.  She was having fun on the stage…

4.  Jamie had her first sleepover this weekend.  Her best friend was allowed to have one friend over to celebrate her birthday.  She invited Jamie and they got all dressed up for dinner and had a blast.  She had so much fun!

5.  Jeremiah is still at work and it’s 8:45 PM.  Boo!

6.  I played a 103 point word on Words With Friends.  I was pretty proud of myself.  Jeremiah wasn’t to pleased, however.

7.  We are thinking of our Spring break vacation.  It happens to be over a certain boy’s big birthday.  It’s going to be fun!

8.  Jacob and Dad have a spaghetti dinner at Jacob’s preschool tomorrow night.  It’s a Dad and Son thing.  Jacob is so excited about it.  I’m pretty sure Dad is too!

9.  It was 38 for a high today.  Tomorrow is supposed to get up to 60!  Is it any wonder why it seem like someone is always sniffly in this house?

10.  I planned a date start to finish for my husband and I for Saturday.  I think we need it after this week (and, yes, I’m aware it’s only Tuesday).

Ten On Tuesday

1.  Jacob got Dino Dig for Christmas.  It’s basically a block of plaster that holds a dino skeleton that he has to excavate.  He loves it!2.  While Pop Pop was here in December, Jeremiah and I were able to get away for 4 days!  We went to Las Vegas and had a blast. This is the longest I’ve been away from any of the kids besides Mazie when we went to Hawaii and she was 18 months old.  The kids had a blast with Pop Pop all to themselves too!

3.  Today was Crazy Hair Day for Jacob. He’s not a fan of wearing his hair in spikes but was excited to do something with his hair when he found out other kids in his class were doing it too.  He’s one cool little man, I tell you. 4.  I’m working on Mazie’s stargazer lilies that she wants on her birthday cake.It takes a little time for all those petals and leaves to dry so I can put them all together.  All of that will be put together to make four lilies.  I already had one done so she will have 5 on her cake.

5.  Jacob is a little excited about having 10 girls (not including myself) in the house Thursday night.  He keeps saying things like, “I hope they don’t love me too much” or “I can’t wait until the girly night”.  I don’t have the heart to tell him that he will be sleeping with Dad upstairs while I stay with the girls on the main level.

6.  Can you believe Mazie will be 10 on Thursday?  I can’t.  It kind of suffocates me when I think of it.  I can’t seem to get over that.

7.  She ordered cheese burgers for her birthday dinner on Friday and will be going out with Dad on Saturday.

8.  Jamie has been so excited about school lately.  This is to say, she comes home from school and actually tells me about her day.  It’s nice.

9.  Our mailman jammed three boxes in the package bin of our mailbox yesterday.  They were our packages.  By jammed, I mean that I actually had to practically damage one to get them out.  I almost chased him down to make him open the whole thing to get them out.  I don’t know why he does that.

10.  I got a Kindle Fire for Christmas.  I love it!  I’ve read 5 books on it so far.  I just finished the Hunger Games trilogy and highly recommend it if you haven’t read it already.  Anyone got any suggestions on good reads?

Happy Tuesday!

Ten On Tuesday

1.  We had a lovely white Christmas here.  Just enough snow to play in and warm enough to do so.  The kids loved it!

2.  Christmas Eve.  The kids were so excited about getting to bed but only after setting out goodies for Santa and making the reindeer food and running the train around the tree a few times…

3.  Santa and his deer made quite a mess with their goodies!  But they did leave a note and some nice gifts under the tree…

4.  I was a little surprised that none of the kids got up much before 8am!  But they quickly checked out their stash.  Even Max took a look…5.  The kids read their note from Santa…6.  Then went onto their gifts…

7.  After a break for food, we quickly were ordered to put it all together and make sure everything worked!  That pretty much took the rest of the day.  That and cooking our traditional brisket dinner.  It really was a lovely Christmas!

8.  Jeremiah cleaned out our storage room in the basement.  He decided to get out some of his old toys.  The kids had fun putting the legos together.  Jacob was in heaven with Jeremiah’s old matchbox cars…9.  Mazie has been counting down to her birthday for almost a month.  Today, instead of saying good morning, she informed me that there are only “9 more days until the big 10”!  I’m really not sure if she is excited about turning 10 or that her party happens to be a sleepover this year.  I have to say that today (9 days out) I am dreading both…

10.  Jacob told me this morning that he can’t wait until Mazie’s birthday because it makes us closer to his birthday.  “And since I’m going to be 5 we can to go out on a date” were his words.  Again, not really ready for that one.

Happy Tuesday!

The Last of the Thankfuls

So on this last day of November, I’m going to finish out my Thankfuls.

27.  I am thankful we had glorious weather while my brother and fam were here visiting.  It was lovely and we even went to the zoo!  I promise pictures are coming.

28.  I am thankful that for the holidays.  People seem to be friendlier and happier.  Maybe it’s the alcohol consumed but I like to think it’s the cheer ;-)!

29.  I am thankful that I am a baker.  I love that my house smells of goodies and the kids smile when they walk in and I’ve made something fun for dessert.   Baking is a de-stresser for me.  It’s also my creative outlet.

30.  Today I am thankful that I am loved.  My husband loves me, my kids love me, I have awesome friends who remember me on my birthday (and other days), my family.  It’s a nice reminder when you get a special note or an unexpected something that someone in your life remembers and thinks of you.  It doesn’t have to be because of a holiday or birthday, just because.  And that feeling makes me feel great and loved.

Picture of Thanksgiving will be on here soon!

More Thankfuls

23.  I am thankful for stripey socks.  I love them.  They make my feet happy!

24.  I am thankful my brother and his family arrived at our house safe and sound.

25.  I am thankful for all the things everyone said around our Thanksgiving dinner table.  Mazie and Jamie said they were thankful for their family and each other.  Jacob said he was thankful for his planes and the house.  Josh and Carissa were thankful for family and each other.  Jeremiah was thankful for all the memories we have to still make. I was thankful my brother could finally be at my Thanksgiving table with his sweet family.  Sweet 2-year-old Chloe said she was thankful that she could play outside.  I’m pretty smitten with all those things!

26.  I am thankful for the fact I did not want or need to go out shopping on Black Friday.  Instead I finished most of my shopping in the warmth of my house and comfort of my favorite chair.

Ten On Tuesday

1.  Today Jamie’s second grade class celebrated Thanksgiving.  The kids were to dress up as pilgrims or indians.  Jamie chose an indian and we made an outfit for her this weekend.  I think it turned out nicely…Max apparently liked it too!

2.  Our house is complete with the paint job we’ve had done.  We are very happy with it.  What do you think?

3.  This is my new favorite old place…

4.  I am more than half way complete in my Christmas shopping.  This is late for me.  Typically I have it all done, wrapped, and ready to ship by now.  Hopefully I will get the packages to their places about the same time as if I were on schedule.

5.  We had our family pictures taken on Sunday.  Now I can start my Christmas cards.  Again, I’m behind on that.

6.  I’m catching up on my Thankfuls…19).  I am thankful for preschool singing.  I rewatched a video that I took of one of Jacob’s program songs and just love it.  I am a little sad this is our last year of preschool.  20).  I am thankful that Jeremiah asked me out for a second time 17 years ago (see the previous post for the history).  21). I am thankful for transportation.  I am so happy that my brother and his family are hopping on a plane to visit!  22). I am thankful that my kids are safe in their beds, sleeping sweetly, and have the rest of the week to relax and enjoy the holiday!

7.  I have all the ingredients for our feast.  Turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, mashed red potatoes, corn, green beans, cranberry sauce, rolls, pumpkin and apple pies.  What are you having?

8.   We are to have 65 degrees for our Thanksgiving day.  A little unseasonal, if you ask me.  It should be a little cooler, not snowing or freezing, but a little cooler.

9.  I am happy that my house is ours again.  It seems like the roofers kind of took over for a while and then the painters.  It’s nice to not have to worry if there are people walking around the house now.

10.  The girls and I are having a little treat tomorrow.  Pedicures.  Jacob and Dad are going to enjoy the “ducky car wash” (aka Quick Quack car wash) while we are getting pampered.  I can’t really be sure who will have more fun!

Happy Tuesday!

Friday Five

1.  Here are a few more of my Thankfuls…13. I am thankful for technology.  Every week we Skype my dad and the kids love it.  Our phones and email and blogging keep us in touch with anyone.  14. I am thankful for my friends.  They’ve been there through ups and downs and still stick around.  15. I am thankful that my kids are healthy.  Aside from an occasional cold, we’ve never had a problem with their health and I do not take that for granted.  16. I am thankful for my health and Jeremiah’s health.  We, also, get the occasional cold but it keeps us human! 17. I am thankful that my kids love school and love learning.  All of them are still very much sponges and get excited when they learn about something new.  It makes me happy.  18.  I am thankful for our dog Maxine.  She is such a great dog and totally fits our family.  She truly is a blessing for us and I’m glad we found her.

2.  Jacob is officially on Thanksgiving break.  He went with me yesterday to the AF Academy to a feast for Group 1 (Jeremiah’s work, basically, for you civilians).  It was fun and Jacob ate his weight in food!

3.  Our house should be officially complete tomorrow after a walk around to make sure it’s perfect.  I can’t wait to take some pictures to show it.  It looks fabulous!

4.  The girls have two more days of school until their Thanksgiving break starts.

5.  We are celebrating Thanksgiving on Friday next week instead of Thursday.  Reason?  Because my brother, sister-in-law, and sweet little niece are coming to visit and they are flying on Thursday.  To say we are excited would be the biggest understatement!

Happy Friday!

Thankfuls for November

I’m going to catch up on my thankfuls for the month…

November 5, I am thankful for my family.  My extended family.  Without them I would not have had the guidance, examples, love to live the way I feel is right.

November 6, I am thankful for the weather.  I love that Colorado can brag of 300 days of sunshine.  I love that we get snow but it goes away pretty quickly.

November 7, I am thankful for being able to voice my opinion.  I’m not always right (and I admit it) but I can still voice it nonetheless.

November 8, I am thankful for the spunk that my kids have.  I may not always like having it directed at me but I am thankful they feel they can speak freely and have an opinion as well.  I want them to keep that forever.

November 9, I am thankful for my freedom.period.

November 10, I am thankful for love.  Without it where would we be?  I am thankful to be completely and passionately in love with my husband and know that he feels the same.  I am thankful that my kids fill my heart completely.

November 11, I am thankful for all the veterans who have served so willingly to our country to keep my family safe, including those who are serving today and who will serve in the future.

November 12, I am thankful for college football.  I love watching the players come together as a team and show spirit and play their hearts out!
