Ten on Tuesday

1.  I had a lovely Mother’s Day.  I was summoned by three kids saying all together, “Would the Lady of the House like to join us for breakfast. Happy Mother’s Day”.  Well, Jacob was kind of just making noise but it was still cute.

2.  Jacob and Dad had to make a trip to Costco in the morning.  Jacob walked in like he owned the place and asked the lady who was stocking the flowers if she had any yellow roses (my favorite).  She said that she did and gave him a bunch.  He hiked them over his shoulder and walked to the cashiers.  It was pretty funny to hear Jeremiah tell the story!

3.  I had the most handmade cards I’ve ever gotten!  I’m serious when I say I have 15 cards to put in my keepsake box.  I love handmade cards!

4.  Jacob didn’t get into the preschool program at school.  The lottery is completely random apparently.  I have heard that there was only one position available to paying parents.  Nice.  So we’re searching for a new preschool for the Fall.

5.  The kids helped Jeremiah put the picnic table together this weekend.  It feels like it’s officially time for warmer weather now.  Unfortunately after a few days of warm, sunny weather, it supposed to be super cold tomorrow.

6.  Jamie ran in her last meet yesterday and had a party tonight to celebrate.  I will do a separate post on that.  It deserves its own.

7.  We are adopting a dog.  We went to a pet fair last weekend and found a perfect match for our family.  She is a lab mix and we can’t wait to get her home!  She is nothing like Cletus.

8.  Remember Cletus?

9.  Mazie is supposed to walk to a SkySox game tomorrow for a field trip with the fourth and fifth grades.  I’m not sure if they will be going if we get the weather we’re supposed to.

10.  Jeremiah and I are going to a Murder Mystery this weekend.  We were invited by some friends.  We are playing parts.  I am a chef.  It should be lots of fun!

Happy Tuesday!

Ten On Tuesday

1.  Jamie had her second meet last night.  It was sprint night.  She had to run a 50 meter and a 200 meter.  First, she got a pep talk from the coach… Then she ran as fast as she could for the 50 m (her official time was not given). Then she lined up with the other first grade girls for the 200 m…(her official time 1 minute 3 seconds).

We’ve come to the conclusion that sprinting isn’t really Jamie’s thing.  She can just concentrate on long runs with mom!  But she was happy that she competed and got her ribbon.  I was just excited to see her do it.

2.  My cake decorating class was cancelled for Mondays since I only had one student sign up.  The good thing is that I was able to watch Jamie run her little bum off.  The bad thing is that I really like teaching.  Maybe next month!

3.  Jamie had the best fan club cheering her on.  It was so cold but they were bundled and cheering loudly!

4.  We had a parent/teacher conference with Jamie’s first grade teacher about her transitioning into second grade.  The teacher is planning on moving the group of 5 “smarty” kids all together since they work so well together and push each other in a good way.  They are also going to go with Jamie’s old Kindergarten teacher since she has moved to the second grade!  Jamie is relieved and happy with all this.

5.  Last night after the conference, I realized that Mazie only has next year left of elementary school.  My heart sank a little when I heard myself say that she would be in middle school.

6.  We just found out today that the preschool program has not been cancelled.  We were a little worried that the school board was going to get rid of it since they had no money.  I have to wait until Friday to find out if Jacob gets the same days he already has.  I will be a little happy to not worry about these things for the next year when he starts kindergarten.  Again, my heart sank just re-reading that.

7.  Jumpy, our resident squirrel, is eating a peanut in my tree as I type.  The kids think he’s pretty cool.

8.  Jacob brought home a Mother’s Day gift for me today.  The kids painted a crock, the teachers wrote what the kids answered to “I love you because…” and the kids planted marigold seeds which already sprouted!  I’m not gonna lie…I cried a little to read what Jacob told the teacher to write.  He said, “I love you because…you hug and kiss me! When I am 5 years old you and I are going out for a date!  Happy Mother’s Day.  (and then he signed his name)”.

9.  Jamie got a “Make Your Own Mask” kit for her birthday.  Mazie had gotten the same kit for Christmas.  So Jamie and Mazie made one this weekend.  It was pretty cool to see them working together on similar things.

10.  Jamie has a project for school due next week.  She has to make a Math game.  It’s supposed to have adding, subtracting, counting, etc. all in a game.  We have a poster board for her game board and colorful paper for her pieces.  She even has a rough draft sketch of what she wants it to look like.  She’s excited to put it all together.

Friday Five

1.  Mazie didn’t win with her science fair project but she did get a ribbon for competing.  She was pretty happy with that.  I was happy when we saw the actually grade sheet and she had an excellent for presentation.  I guess I wasn’t the only one who thought her project looked sharp!

2.  Big day here in the Stahr house…Jacob put his booster seat away.  He helped pack it up and take it to the basement with all the other “baby” things that we are keeping for visitors with smaller kids to use.

He hasn’t been using it for about a week now.  He was pretty excited!

3.  I made the coolest hot air balloon cake ever!  Actually with Jeremiah’s engineering mind, I was able to actually make it stand and it looks so cool.  I will be posting pictures of it on the business blog this weekend!

4.  It was super windy today.  I mean, the wind actually took your breath away if you were outside.  It was a nice warm day otherwise.  I’m starting to get sick of it being warm and sunny and super windy.

5.  Tonight is our last night with a six-year-old girl in the house forever!  I remember this night 7 years ago.  I was have labor pains…nothing too active but still there.  I remember trying to make this night special for Mazie since she was about to be a big sister and not the only one anymore.  I also remember barely sleeping this night 7 years ago in anticipation of meeting Jamie.  Tonight Jamie is so excited to be turning 7.  She is so excited for her party tomorrow and to open presents and to have her day.  She’s not the one who wants to be the center of attention until it’s something like her birthday or a music program or a race.  I am so very proud of Jamie.  Tomorrow is going to be great!

Ten on Tuesday

1.  Jamie ran her first meet last night.  She ran 400 meters in 2 minutes and 21 seconds (her official time).  She was so excited and proud.  I am so proud of her for doing something that was totally and completely out of her box.  She even got a ribbon after she crossed the finish line.  She did such an awesome job!

2.  Jamie originally ordered up a 7 balloon cake for her big celebration this weekend.  Then we realized that only 9 kids were going to be at her party.  She changed it to a hot air balloon instead.

3.  I should probably get working on that design.

4.  My Decorating Basics course at Hobby Lobby ended last night.  I am going to post pictures of the students’ final project cakes on the business blog later this week.  They all did a great job…even the two 11-year olds!

5.  Speaking of my classes, if you are in the area and interested in taking a class, May classes start next week!  Go to Hobby Lobby to sign up.

6.  I am making the first of our Easter leftover meals tonight.  Ham Pot Pie is on the menu.  The kids (and, even more so, Jeremiah) are super excited!

7.  Jeremiah recently got his iPhone in the mail.  He is officially out of the cave!

8.  Mazie handed in her Science Fair project on Monday.  She was so excited about it.  Her hypothesis was to prove whether or not plants needed both light and water to survive.  She had 4 different plants.  One received water and light, one only light, one only water, and one nothing (she had the last two plants under a box to keep light out).  It was pretty interesting to see the results.  We get to see the projects displayed after school tomorrow and they get judged on Thursday!

9.  I asked Jamie where she wanted to go on her birthday date with dad.  Jacob interrupted and asked if he was going on a birthday date.  I explained that he and I will go out on a birthday day when we turns 5.  He piped up with, “We will go somewhere special.”  My heart filled with the thought of him wanting to go somewhere special.  Then he said, “I think Noodles & Co would be good.”  I guess to a 4-year old, that is a pretty special place!

10.  I’m pretty proud of my family.  Jeremiah is graduating from college soon.  Jacob is getting so big and smart.  Jamie is trying new things without hesitation.  Mazie is using her brain for productive things instead of misbehaving.  I have a pretty great family!  I love you all!

Ten On Tuesday

1.  Mazie had her performance last week.  The Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale came to the school and worked with the kids who volunteered the songs for the program.

Mazie had so much fun and learn a lot of things about music.  The kids practiced so hard.  I was so impressed with the fact that they learned all their moves and songs in only 6 1/2 hours of practicing!

2.  Jamie is loving Landsharks.  She was told to be prepared to run, run some more, and then run a lot more at practice tonight.  She was pretty excited about practice when she left for school!

3.  Jacob has been learning about insects at school.  So that means he comes home from school and goes outside to find bugs.  He mostly finds those little rolly polly bugs.  You know, the ones that roll into a ball when you touch them.  Poor bugs, they kind of get squished by my son’s fingers.  He’s not the most gentle kid.

4.  Jacob had his first experience with the “big” ladder this weekend.  Jeremiah wanted to check the gutters.  And, of course, he needed a sidekick.  Jacob was so fascinated by the roof.  I’m pretty sure he didn’t even notice what condition the gutter was in.

5.  What were the girls doing while Jacob and Dad were working?  I’m so glad you asked.

They were climbing the tree in the front yard.  They got a little high for this mama to keep breathing but I managed to keep enough oxygen in to snap a picture.

6.  The kids have a Literacy Day on Friday.  This only means they have a day off of school.  They are supposed to be home reading which will happen at some point during the day.

7.  Jacob was baking with me last week when I was making a brownie cake.  Actually this is what he was doing…

8.  Want to know what happens when my son gets my iPhone?  This…

Yep, he has figured out how to use the camera.  He thinks it’s a game.  I had 8o pictures of his cute little face and 5 of the living room.  Stinker!

9.  Jacob and I are going to make home-made peanut butter eggs today.  They are going to fill our Easter basket cake that I am going to make on Saturday for Sunday’s dessert.  I can’t believe Easter is this weekend already!

10. Since Easter is this weekend, what plans do you have?  We are having our Easter Ham dinner with all the fixin’s and the above mentioned cake.  Just the 5 of us this year.  And the Easter Bunny is sure to leave some baskets for the kids.  We are also going to be coloring eggs with friends Saturday afternoon.  It should fun!

Happy Tuesday

Ten On Tuesday

1.  Jamie is registered for Landsharks.  It’s a running club for kids.  She will have three meets where she will run between 400 and 800 meters.  She is so excited.  Her first practice is today after school.

2.  Mazie is signed up for a Chorale this week.  Today, tomorrow, and Thursday she practices all kinds of dance moves and singing.  It’s a free program that the music program is doing with the Colorado Springs children’s Music Chorale.  The concert is on Thursday evening.  It’s should be great to see!

3.  Jacob walked home with me from school today.  This really isn’t anything special except for today he walked the entire way holding my hand…by his choice.  We also took the “long way” home.  It’s still a little more than 1/2 a mile but for him he thinks it’s the long way.

4.  My heart melted a little during the 1/2 mile walk with my son.  You see, those moments of him wanting to hold my hand for such a long time on his own accord or telling me that I’m the best mommy because I drove home the way he wanted or hearing him say, “I love you” for no reason, are rapidly going away.  So I try to suck them in when I get them.

5.  When we got home, I was making his lunch, I handed him his “samich” and said, “Thanks for walking home with me.  It was fun.”  He replied, “You welcome, Mommy.  I liked it too.”  *sigh*

6.  While I was running this morning, I was having a little trouble getting started.  But half way through (on my turn-around), I saw Pikes Peak.  It motivated me to continue.  The funny thing…I noticed all the budding trees and tulips that I apparently missed on the way up the hill.  The downhill didn’t hurt with the motivation either!  I realized today that I run in the most beautiful scenery.  I love it here.

7.  Did anyone check out the Stahrs Cakes site lately?  I have some pictures from my cake decorating class last month.  I’m really loving the whole teaching thing.  I have a feeling it has more to do with what I am teaching instead of teaching.  But I’m having fun so it doesn’t really matter why, right?  😉

8.  Jeremiah and I went through our April and May calendars together.  Our heads practically exploded.  I’m almost certain that I heard my iPhone actually tell me that I couldn’t put in anymore entries!

9.  Yes, May is overwhelmingly busy with my classes, the kids ending school and their school things, Jeremiah finished school, graduating, and change of command and graduation ceremonies.  I just hope we get through it without missing life!

10.  Speaking of missing life,  go for a walk and smell nature.  The trees are budding and the flowers are blooming.  Take advantage if you have nice weather and get outside!  You’ll have a better outlook on your day.

Whoa! It’s Friday!

How in the world did it become Friday?  I am not sure where the last week went.

1.  I started teaching the Decorating Basics at Hobby Lobby last week.  Tonight was my second class.  The students brought a cake from home, leveled, torted, and filled it.  Then they iced it smooth and put on a design.  They were pleased!  I was thrilled that they had enough time even with my teaching.  I guess I’m not too bad at it so far!

2.  Our two-week Spring break started today at 3:30pm!  That is the time the kids got out of school.  We are so happy for a break.  I’m sure I will be singing a different tune next week at this time…

3.  The Spring break means we are heading to the Grand Canyon.  More specifically, Williams, AZ!  We will be staying there and then hopping on a train to the Grand Canyon.  We will be back on Tuesday.

4.  This is the first time we’ve had all the kids in the car, with no one nursing, for more than 3 hours!  Yikes! I’m a little nervous about the 12 1/2 hour drive.

5.  So we are computer/facebook/email-free until Tuesday.  Make that Wednesday!  Have a great weekend!

Ten On Tuesday

1.  Our dear friends in California had a gorgeous baby girl on March 3.  I can’t wait to meet her and see them again.  Congratulations, Cory and Kristina!

2.  Mazie is almost finished with CSAP testing.  Tomorrow and Thursday are the last days and we will be glad when it’s over.  We’ve been referring to them as StinkSAPs around here to lighten the stress.

3.  Jamie is playing tanzen on her ipod while we are waiting for Mazie to get home from taekwondo.  She emptied the dishwasher too.  Almost entirely by herself!

4.  Jacob is learning about zoo animals at school this week.  This is exciting for him since he thinks he is an expert in this department and his birthday party is going to be at the zoo.

5.  My classes at Hobby Lobby start on Thursday.  If you are in the area and want to sign up, call me or go to the Hobby Lobby off Tutt and Barnes to sign up.  I’m really getting nervous but very excited.

6.  We had snow last night but it was more of an icy mess this morning than snow.  We haven’t really gotten any good playing snow yet this year.  I would love to have some wet snowball snow but I’m pretty sure that’s not normal for here.  Plus if I wish for it, it will come around March 26 and that wouldn’t be ok.

7.  Jacob’s birthday party will be at the zoo or he will bust!  Did I mention his little red-haired girly is coming?  It was so sweet how he blushed when I handed him her invite and shook his head that he couldn’t do it.  Then I explained that if he didn’t give her the invite, she couldn’t come to the party.  He raced to her and yelled, “HERE”.

8.  Jeremiah is getting excited about starting his AOC job at the end of May.  I’m looking forward to taking the kids away on vacation while he is busy with basic training since we won’t get to see him all summer.

9.  The kids got their reports cards on Friday.  All threes and fours for effort and Ps and As (proficient or advanced) for grades.  One more report card to go.  The end of school this year is May 25.

10.  I am making cupcake pops for Jacob’s class on Thursday.  He’s so excited because he loves them almost as much as he loves brownies.  I’ve made the round cake pops already and they were a hit.  I’m hoping the cupcake shaped one aren’t too much more work!

Happy Tuesday!

Ten On Tuesday

1.  Jacob told me last week that he was going to marry me.  This really isn’t anything new.  He’s a classic with the whole Oedipus complex.  He often asks me at supper, taking my hand, and then kissing it when he’s finished, all the while keeping an eye on what Dad’s reaction will be.  Last week when he told me he was going to marry me, he said that there wouldn’t be any kissing “yuk”!

2.  I asked the girls if they wanted to be in the talent contest at school and Jamie immediately raised her hand.  When I explained what a talent contest is and what she would have to do in front of lost of people, she said, “well, than, no”.  I think she genuinely thought it would be just us in the audience!

3.  Mazie started CSAP testing today.  Basically the test is to show that the teachers are doing their jobs adequately.  So she gets all stressed out because she wants to do well, of course, to prove her teacher is great.  This test is ridiculous, in my opinion, causing the kids way too much stress.  So today in her lunch bag, I wrote a little note on her napkin to help her keep calm.  It said, “Have a terrific Tuesday.  Good luck on the stinksap tests!  Love, Mom”  She thought it was pretty funny and told me so when she got home.

4.  I have stressed over and over that this test is just a formality.  There is no reason why she won’t do well.  I explained that this is a test for the teachers and if anyone should be upset or sick to the stomachs is should be the teachers.  She wasn’t too stressed when I left her at school this morning.

5.  Jamie is back to singing her answers in her opera voice again.  Great!

6.  Jacob was so excited when Jamie told him today was the first day of March.  You see, he knows his birthday is in March.  Not really sure on the actually day, yet.  That means he wants to celebrate the whole month!  Makes sense when you are turning 4 right?

7.  I can’t believe he is turning 4.  It also makes me realize that next month is Jamie’s birthday and she will be 7.  How are my kids so old already?

8.  I apparently wasn’t clear on how Gnomeo and Juliet was.  We thought the movie was great.  It was Romeo and Juliet for kids with stuff thrown in for the parents to enjoy.  It really was a cute movie.

9.  We are going to the Grand Canyon during Spring Break.  We’re pretty excited, except for the driving part, of course ;-)!

10.  We’ve been having some warm weather here.  Today I walked to pick up Jacob at school and we walked home together.  Then we walked to get the girls at the end of the day.  Then they played outside in the backyard for about an hour after school.  Jacob ate so much at supper that we didn’t hear a peep out of him until he asked for dessert!  He is going to be hard to wake up in the morning, I believe.

Happy Tuesday!

Movie Madness

Last weekend we had a long weekend.  Monday we took the kids to see Gnomeo and Juliet.  It was Jacob’s first movie in the actual movie theater.  He was a little enthralled with the whole ordeal…

The kids had a good time and we all enjoyed the movie.  It was fun to watch the kids though.  That’s what my favorite part was anyway.

On a side note…I had two cake orders last weekend.  This is one of them.A circular saw.  You can read about it here.  Let me know what you think!
