A Group Of Stahrs

Our Family Life…All Together

Thanksgiving 2011

Ok so before we really head into Christmas it’s time I post about our Thanksgiving.  First it was fabulous.  Period.  We were fortunate enough to have some guests this year.  My brother, sister-in-law, and sweet little niece came all the way from the Pittsburgh area and it was fun.  Chloe jumped right into playing with the kids…

We had tea parties and pretend play galore.  Jacob didn’t even mind that he was completely outnumbered since Chloe was so cute. Then it was onto our feast.  Jamie and Mazie did the wishbone this year with Jacob watching closely.  He vowed that next year he gets a turn.Jamie won, in case you needed to know.  And she didn’t tell us what she wished for.  We also got a few group photos…

and some silly faces…We played some instruments…

and played some mad ring around they rosy…We also went to the zoo.

and to the Air Force Academy.  We saw all kinds of “airpanes” but no “ornch” ones.

But, we pretty much just kind of hung around and had a good time with each other…I love this little family…It was so fun to have a little girl in the house for a few days.  You know, since my two aren’t little anymore and have sassy mouths and attitudes.  It was nice to have a little girl laugh and think we were fun. However, I see the attitude and sassy mouth in her future. With her strong will, her parents will have their hands full sooner than they want, I’m sure. Thanks for a wonderful weekend.  We had fun and it was so great having you here!

35

Yesterday was my birthday.  I had a fantastic day.  My kids and husband pampered me and I was treated to dinner out and a homemade Angel food cake…my favorite!Doesn’t that look yummy?  Jeremiah made it all by himself from scratch!  There was some loud singing… and then cutting the cake and eating it with the chocolate fondue…

So saying that I’m 35 sounds old to me.  I certainly don’t feel old.  Sure, I notice the little lines here and there but it seriously catches me off guard to hear that I am 35.  I mean, I really do have to figure out my age based on Mazie’s age.  I was 25 when I had her and she will be 10.  Ok, that’s enough talking now.

The kids made me some fabulous cards.  Jacob even wrote his out all by himself (and it was legible)!  I know how hard they were working on those cards.  It warms my heart.  We also decorated the house to get ready for Christmas… It was a great day.  Thanks for all the birthday love!

The Last of the Thankfuls

So on this last day of November, I’m going to finish out my Thankfuls.

27.  I am thankful we had glorious weather while my brother and fam were here visiting.  It was lovely and we even went to the zoo!  I promise pictures are coming.

28.  I am thankful that for the holidays.  People seem to be friendlier and happier.  Maybe it’s the alcohol consumed but I like to think it’s the cheer ;-)!

29.  I am thankful that I am a baker.  I love that my house smells of goodies and the kids smile when they walk in and I’ve made something fun for dessert.   Baking is a de-stresser for me.  It’s also my creative outlet.

30.  Today I am thankful that I am loved.  My husband loves me, my kids love me, I have awesome friends who remember me on my birthday (and other days), my family.  It’s a nice reminder when you get a special note or an unexpected something that someone in your life remembers and thinks of you.  It doesn’t have to be because of a holiday or birthday, just because.  And that feeling makes me feel great and loved.

Picture of Thanksgiving will be on here soon!

More Thankfuls

23.  I am thankful for stripey socks.  I love them.  They make my feet happy!

24.  I am thankful my brother and his family arrived at our house safe and sound.

25.  I am thankful for all the things everyone said around our Thanksgiving dinner table.  Mazie and Jamie said they were thankful for their family and each other.  Jacob said he was thankful for his planes and the house.  Josh and Carissa were thankful for family and each other.  Jeremiah was thankful for all the memories we have to still make. I was thankful my brother could finally be at my Thanksgiving table with his sweet family.  Sweet 2-year-old Chloe said she was thankful that she could play outside.  I’m pretty smitten with all those things!

26.  I am thankful for the fact I did not want or need to go out shopping on Black Friday.  Instead I finished most of my shopping in the warmth of my house and comfort of my favorite chair.

Ten On Tuesday

1.  Today Jamie’s second grade class celebrated Thanksgiving.  The kids were to dress up as pilgrims or indians.  Jamie chose an indian and we made an outfit for her this weekend.  I think it turned out nicely…Max apparently liked it too!

2.  Our house is complete with the paint job we’ve had done.  We are very happy with it.  What do you think?

3.  This is my new favorite old place…

4.  I am more than half way complete in my Christmas shopping.  This is late for me.  Typically I have it all done, wrapped, and ready to ship by now.  Hopefully I will get the packages to their places about the same time as if I were on schedule.

5.  We had our family pictures taken on Sunday.  Now I can start my Christmas cards.  Again, I’m behind on that.

6.  I’m catching up on my Thankfuls…19).  I am thankful for preschool singing.  I rewatched a video that I took of one of Jacob’s program songs and just love it.  I am a little sad this is our last year of preschool.  20).  I am thankful that Jeremiah asked me out for a second time 17 years ago (see the previous post for the history).  21). I am thankful for transportation.  I am so happy that my brother and his family are hopping on a plane to visit!  22). I am thankful that my kids are safe in their beds, sleeping sweetly, and have the rest of the week to relax and enjoy the holiday!

7.  I have all the ingredients for our feast.  Turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, mashed red potatoes, corn, green beans, cranberry sauce, rolls, pumpkin and apple pies.  What are you having?

8.   We are to have 65 degrees for our Thanksgiving day.  A little unseasonal, if you ask me.  It should be a little cooler, not snowing or freezing, but a little cooler.

9.  I am happy that my house is ours again.  It seems like the roofers kind of took over for a while and then the painters.  It’s nice to not have to worry if there are people walking around the house now.

10.  The girls and I are having a little treat tomorrow.  Pedicures.  Jacob and Dad are going to enjoy the “ducky car wash” (aka Quick Quack car wash) while we are getting pampered.  I can’t really be sure who will have more fun!

Happy Tuesday!

Then and Now

Many of you know that Jeremiah and I are high school sweethearts.  But you may not know how that happened.  So this is about how we started.

January 1994…We were in BioChem class together and we were dissecting minks…their biology is the same as a house cat but it apparently wasn’t cruel to kill minks for science…anyway, most of you know this part…His mink “George” wrote my mink “Henrietta” a note.  It was in my box one morning and it basically was his mink telling my mink to put in a good word for him.  Jeremiah called me and asked me out for two weeks later.  In his defense, he did have to ask his mom for the car for a date with a girl.  However, what high school girl has plans for two weeks out?  I guess that part of his plan worked.  I was free!  We went on a total of 4 dates, one of them being our junior prom.  Then we didn’t date.  It was just bad timing.  I liked him.  He liked me.  We just didn’t connect.

Fast forward to the start of our senior year, September 1994.  The summer was good.  It was time to start the best year ever!  I played field hockey and was ready for the season to start.  School, concert band, marching band, hockey all kept me busy.  Jeremiah was busy with school and both bands as well.  We happened to be trying out for district band together.  We had most of our classes together.  He decided to ask me out again.  This time it was not for two weeks later.  We started dating November 20, 1995 and we’ve been together ever since.  I am so glad he took the chance and asked me out again!

So in honor of our 17 years of dating here is a fun flash back from our senior prom 1995…Yikes, 18 looks so young!  But I can still see that in our eyes from tonight when I snapped this with my phone…

Maybe 17 years isn’t so long after all.  Thanks for asking me out for a second time, Jeremiah.  I love you!

Friday Five

1.  Here are a few more of my Thankfuls…13. I am thankful for technology.  Every week we Skype my dad and the kids love it.  Our phones and email and blogging keep us in touch with anyone.  14. I am thankful for my friends.  They’ve been there through ups and downs and still stick around.  15. I am thankful that my kids are healthy.  Aside from an occasional cold, we’ve never had a problem with their health and I do not take that for granted.  16. I am thankful for my health and Jeremiah’s health.  We, also, get the occasional cold but it keeps us human! 17. I am thankful that my kids love school and love learning.  All of them are still very much sponges and get excited when they learn about something new.  It makes me happy.  18.  I am thankful for our dog Maxine.  She is such a great dog and totally fits our family.  She truly is a blessing for us and I’m glad we found her.

2.  Jacob is officially on Thanksgiving break.  He went with me yesterday to the AF Academy to a feast for Group 1 (Jeremiah’s work, basically, for you civilians).  It was fun and Jacob ate his weight in food!

3.  Our house should be officially complete tomorrow after a walk around to make sure it’s perfect.  I can’t wait to take some pictures to show it.  It looks fabulous!

4.  The girls have two more days of school until their Thanksgiving break starts.

5.  We are celebrating Thanksgiving on Friday next week instead of Thursday.  Reason?  Because my brother, sister-in-law, and sweet little niece are coming to visit and they are flying on Thursday.  To say we are excited would be the biggest understatement!

Happy Friday!

Thanksgiving Program

Jacob had a Thanksgiving program at school today.  He was so excited about the whole thing.  His teachers told the class to not tell the parents anything about the program so it would be a surprise.  He followed their instructions and wouldn’t tell us anything!

He was an indian…Jacob was so proud to be on stage.  His class was first to perform and they did so with another class.  They sang two songs that were completely out of tune.  It was great.  I love preschool singing!

After the other classes performed, all of the kids stood to give the blessing for their feast.  They all sang the Johnny Appleseed prayer.

Then it was time for the feast.  Jacob was excited about this part the most.  His class made the applesauce and cornbread muffins (shaped into leaves) for the feast.  Those were the things he ate too.  But they had a cute little set up for the students…He does make a handsome indian, doesn’t he?Jacob was most happy that Dad was able to make it.I have to say it was one of the best programs I’ve been to in a long time.  The rest of the day Jacob sang his songs over again.  He was happy he didn’t have to keep it quiet anymore!

Thankfuls for November

I’m going to catch up on my thankfuls for the month…

November 5, I am thankful for my family.  My extended family.  Without them I would not have had the guidance, examples, love to live the way I feel is right.

November 6, I am thankful for the weather.  I love that Colorado can brag of 300 days of sunshine.  I love that we get snow but it goes away pretty quickly.

November 7, I am thankful for being able to voice my opinion.  I’m not always right (and I admit it) but I can still voice it nonetheless.

November 8, I am thankful for the spunk that my kids have.  I may not always like having it directed at me but I am thankful they feel they can speak freely and have an opinion as well.  I want them to keep that forever.

November 9, I am thankful for my freedom.period.

November 10, I am thankful for love.  Without it where would we be?  I am thankful to be completely and passionately in love with my husband and know that he feels the same.  I am thankful that my kids fill my heart completely.

November 11, I am thankful for all the veterans who have served so willingly to our country to keep my family safe, including those who are serving today and who will serve in the future.

November 12, I am thankful for college football.  I love watching the players come together as a team and show spirit and play their hearts out!

Friday Five

1.  Jacob got me sick.  Again.  I was better for about a week from my cold from my favorite Minnesota boy and then Jacob sneezed and coughed on me several times.  Now I have laryngitis.  The kids are loving that!

2.  November is the month to be thankful.  So since today is November 4, here are my first four days of being thankful reasons…1). I am thankful for my husband. He’s good to me, is a wonderful dad, and I love him.period. 2). I am thankful for my wonderful kids, they drive me crazy sometimes but I am so happy that I was able to have them for them to do so and they really like to do that to me.  I love them.period. 3).  I am thankful for the life that we all have together.  I love where we are in our life right now.  I loved it last week, month, years, etc and I know I will love it in the future too.  4).  I am thankful for the Air Force.  I know it sounds corny but without Jeremiah being an officer, we would have never been to the places we have been or met the people who are still very much apart of our lives.

3.  Yesterday Jacob and I were at the doctor’s office (urgent care) and 1 1/2 hours after we got there the doctor walks in and introduces himself.  Jacob looked at him and said, “You’re late”!  He doesn’t like to wait.  What 4-year-old does?

4.  Today the painter finally showed up to assess the house and go over what needs to be done and such.  He asked if we had samples of paint.  I’m sorry but isn’t that his job to bring samples of paint for us to choose from?  I took the kids to get paint chips from Lowe’s in colors we would like.  I hope this isn’t as bad as the roof getting done.

5.  Tomorrow is the big Air Force/Army game.  We will be cheering the Falcons on from our house (see #1).  GO FALCON!

Happy Friday.
