A Group Of Stahrs

Our Family Life…All Together

Turkey #2

On Thursday, Jamie’s class put on three Thanksgiving plays at the Reader’s Theater.  The kids read their parts aloud to the entire crowd and believe me when I say there was a big crowd of proud parents!

After the first two plays were over it was Jamie’s group’s turn.  Her play was entitled The Ugly Turkey (some of you may remember when Mazie did this play in first grade and she was the Ugly Turkey).  For those of you who know the story of the ugly duckling it is similar but with turkeys and a peacock instead of ducks and swans.  Anyway, Jamie was Turkey #2!

Turkeys 1, 2, 3, and 4 were mean to the peacock.  But then they went off and grew up and became beautiful turkeys and realized the error of their ways being mean to the peacock who was now beautiful!

It was so great to hear her reading so fluently out loud.  She did a great job as did all the students!  One thing I am thankful for this year…kids who love to read!

Americans We

I love music programs.  What’s not to love…kids singing off key, their funny dance moves, seeing the kids dressed up.  It’s a highlight for me!  I remember when I was in elementary school.  I thought we sounded awesome and, even though we didn’t sound awesome, I have fond memories of performing at my concerts.

Last night, Mazie had her music concert.  Since it was on Veteran’s Day, the theme was americana.  It was amazing.  There was a color guard there to present the American and Colorado State flags.  We all said the Pledge of Allegiance (Jacob too because he learned it in school!) and then enjoyed the first song.  You have to look closely to see Mazie.  She the small one in the third row on the left side of the picture.

The students then got off the stage for the second song.  The music teacher put together a slideshow of all the parents who are currently or have served in the military.  The kids sang while the slideshow was going on.

The music teacher asked if everyone would stand for the singing the National Anthem.  Tears filled my eyes to hear all the people in the audience join the fourth graders in singing.

The program was simply spectacular!

Ten On Tuesday

1.  So my son thinks he quite the lover boy.  He has two girlfriends at school.  One has red hair (I think of Charlie Brown with that one) and one has blonde hair and blue eyes just like he does.  Those are his reasons for liking those two anyway.  Yesterday at the gym, he played with three girls the whole time I was working out.

2.  Jacob told me that when we got home, I could get a cheeky kiss!  I love that boy.

3.  It is supposed to snow here today.  It looks like it might but there isn’t anything yet.  We had 70 degrees yesterday!

4.  I’m not complaining about the weather.  However, it would have been nice to enjoy some Fall-like weather since we had such a hot summer and now it’s supposed to be in the 40s the rest of the week.

5.  Mazie and I went shopping for new sneakers for her this weekend.  She went from a size 12 to a size 2!  All of a sudden.  Most of her dressy shoes are sized 1.

6.  Jamie is still has two pair of jeans that are size 5.  They are a little snug but she likes them because she doesn’t have to roll them.  Poor thing.  Why can’t they make 6X in petite?

7.  If Jamie doesn’t grow soon, Jacob’s going to be the same size.  He wears 4T and almost the same size in shoe!

8. I am finished Christmas shopping for all the kids in our life…except ours.  I know what to get them.  I just haven’t yet.  I also know what I am getting others too.  Again, just haven’t gotten there.  I even have some birthday presents for the upcoming months already ordered or purchased!  I know, I’m on it.

9.  I have our Christmas cards ready too!  Thanks to Rachel who took our pictures last week.  Maybe there will be a sneak peek this week…

10. The downside to all that is that I have to get it wrapped and to the post office in a timely matter.  That’s where I tend to not just drop the ball but lose it altogether.  Hopefully, this will be my year to prove myself to be better at that part!

Happy Tuesday.

School Work

Wednesday was a pajama day for Jacob.  He wanted to stay in his jammies and do his homework!  So that’s just what we did.  He was supposed to decorate a turkey for his classroom.  So he told me the specifics of what I was to do and what he was to do.

My directions were to cut some feathers in the colors of his choice, punch some stars in the same colors as those feathers, and get the glue!

He was to put things were they were supposed to be.  He started with the feathers.  He put the glue stick on the turkey and placed the feathers.  Then smeared more glue on the turkey (and a little on the table ;-)) and placed the stars.  He put buttons on the feet and picked out the ribbon for a bow.  He decided to ask me to make the bow and put star tacks for the eyes.  He placed the bow though.

He decided the turkey needed a little bit more color and added some.  Finished product…

He was so proud of it.  On Thursday he marched it into his classroom and handed it right to his teacher with a huge smile on his face!

One thing we’ve been working on this week…deleting all naps.  We went through this a few months ago when he wasn’t staying in bed at night.  So we shortened his nap.  He started the whole “I’m not going to stay in bed” thing (sometimes until 10pm) again about a week ago.  We decided to try it a few days without nap.  He has been staying in bed all night but still not completely ready to be rid of his naps.  This is what happened after he worked so hard on his turkey…

Today was a special day for Jamie.  In her soaring class (the enrichment program at school), she has been working on a project about the Sioux indian tribe.  Today she was to present her information to her class.  Anyone who knows Jamie, knows how big this was for her.  She did such an awesome job!  She read her book that she made with gorgeous drawings.

She was to make a visual aide for her project and she chose to do a painting.  She had a buffalo and buffalo rug on the picture as well as the Sioux Indian girl blowing a horn to warn the others in the tribe of a storm that was coming!

All of this was done in front of the entire class.  I was so proud of her for doing it!  At supper, I asked her how she was able to do all that without being nervous.  She smiled and said, “but I was very nervous”.

Not to leave Mazie out, she is gearing up for her big Robotics competition.  She has been working hard at the practices with her team getting ready.  I have no pictures at this time but there will plenty of the actual competition!

Happy Friday!

The Great Catch Up

I have to get things into an order before the big holidays start around here.  I like Halloween but that’s not really a big holiday for us here.  In fact, the kids didn’t even go trick-or-treating.  We went to the Fall Festival at school on Friday night and the AF/Utah football game on Saturday night.  I wasn’t going to take the kids out on Sunday because we kind of needed a day where we just didn’t go anywhere.  They didn’t even notice that we didn’t go out.  They typically forget about the candy anyway.  It sits in the pantry (while I sneak a piece here and there) until June when I finally throw it out.

So two weeks ago was Fall break around here.  I didn’t really post anything besides the kids jumping into our pathetic pile of leaves.  It really was pathetic but they did have their fun.  We also had lots of art time.  The kids love when they can color, draw, create.  So that’s what we did for one whole day.  Nothing but create…

We also enjoyed a movie day.  Each of the kids picked out one movie and then I added one for good measure.  There were lots of treats to eat.  Popcorn, chips, pretzels, and even ice cream for lunch.  Oh and they stayed in jammies all day long!

That’s all I have pictures of but the kids had fun playing together for the full two weeks.  It was time to go back last week though.  Jacob was ready to have the girls out of the house and me to himself.  And he was ready to go back too!

Last week was a busy baking week for me.  I made cupcakes for Mazie’s Fall class party.  I also made this cake for the festival.  I donated it to the cake walk.  I also had an order due on Sunday.  (you can see that on the business blog too)  Jacob loves to help me in the kitchen.  So while he was monitoring Ruby (the mixer) I snapped this picture.  He was telling me that the batter was “smooshy”.

Jacob also reached the half way point in his semester of The Little Gym classes.  So their theme for that class was a pajama party.  They were to wear their jammies and show all the parents their cool moves.  Here they are at their slumber party sleeping…

When they change stations they pretend they are a train…

I just love this picture of him showing off in front of a girl…

This picture is funny because while all the kids were doing their cool moves, it was storming (and hailing) outside and none of them noticed!

“Hey, Mom, are you getting this?”

So there was our Fall break and last week!  Whew that’s it.  I’m caught up!  November is proving to be busier than October already.  Lots going on this month.  Mazie has a choral concert and her first robotics competition, Pop Pop will be visiting 🙂 , Thanksgiving…just to name a few things.  Hopefully we will be able to breathe while all this is going on!

Happy Halloween

The kids were so excited about dressing up this year.  Jamie insisted on being a black cat because she knows how to roll her tongue to purr!

Jacob wore his Thomas the Tank Engine costume from last year since he never wore it last year.  He was proud to do so too!

Mazie was supposed to be a vampire but I couldn’t quite find all the things to go with the cape.  So I bought these cute horn barrettes and we went with a vampire devil!

You can check out the Halloween goodies at the business website.

Ten On Tuesday

1.  After I posted that our tree was just losing its leaves, still green and unchanging, it miraculously started changing and all the leaves were yellow and then on the ground.  Just like that, in a matter of days!

2.  So what do you do with all those leaves?  Jump!

3.  And the kids were all about it…

4.  I even got a few of all three together in the leaves…(check the banner too).

5.  This was all until one of the kids stepped into a pile of cat poop and was done.

6.  Yep, we have cats…some from neighbors who let them outside, some stray…who roam around the neighborhood using our yard as a cat box.

7.  Wanna know what my idea is to getting rid of the cat poop?  Get a dog.

8.  I’m not so sure we are ready for another being in the house, especially since I want a larger dog.  Read bigger than our last dog.

9.  Remember him?  The crazy Jack Russell named Cleatus?  Yeah, Jeremiah is not allowed to pick this one.  We will adopt and we will pick all together.

10.  This was a pretty weird Ten on Tuesday.  I started with leaves and ended with dogs.  That’s kind of how my brain has been working lately.  It will straighten out eventually. 😉

Happy Tuesday!

Comin’ Back

I know I’ve been out of the loop lately.  It’s been a crazy two weeks of Fall break and then there was this cake challenge.  So I will get back into the swing of things starting tomorrow!  School is back in session starting tomorrow and we couldn’t be happier.

But if you want to check out how the cake challenge went, you can go to the business blog (stahrscakes.com) and read all about it!

Thanks for sticking with me.  Bloggin’ world, I’ve missed you…

Jacob’s Day

Jacob is now 3 1/2 years old.  I know, shocking to me too!  He just insists that he’s going to turn 4, then 5, then 6, then 7, then 8, then 9, and then 10.  He stops there which is fine with me!

So he obliged me with a little photo shoot last night.  How did I get him to do this?  Easy.  I promised the park after!  It worked and he was so excited to go to the bridge for these pictures.

First we had to say “Hi” to the biggest rock ever!

And, yes, he posed.  He really wanted to go to the park!

He even looked directly into the magic blinking lens!  See, I told you he really wanted to go to the park.  We finally made it to the bridge.  Can’t you see his excitement?

After I got that last one, I told him I would beat him back to the car.  He said, “I’m going to get down and then beat you” and took off running his fastest back to the car.  See, by the third one, you tend to find a few tricks to get them to do what you want…usually! 😉

We ended up at the park, where I asked for one more picture with him looking at the magic blinking lens.  And then he was off to play!

Happy Friday!
