Our Family Life…All Together

Preschooler Songs

I have to say that one of my very favorite things as a mom is to see my kids in a program.  I don’t care how out of key they sing, it is just something I have to see.  Today was Jacob’s last day before Winter break and his class had a little party.

The teacher read The Mitten and the kids (and some of us parents) were completely enthralled…

The kids were asked to find their letters (what a cool way to have them line up and listen…makes me want to get alphabet carpet all over the house 🙂 !)

As you can see from the last picture, Jacob was pretty excited.  Not that he was going to sing his best for us but that he was standing beside his little red-haired girlfriend, Miss Bella!  Nice.

Their first song was to the tune of I’m A Little Tea Pot but was about a snowman and he melted at the end of the song which meant the kids had to act like they were melting…

And since they were already down, the next song had to do with sleeping bears to the tune of Are You Sleeping?…

Then the grand finale was Jingle Bells!  And the kids were jingling bells, of course and belting it out…out of key, out of sync…man, I love preschooler singing!

“In a one horse open sleigh.  HEY!” Can’t you just hear it…

They put their bells back and lined up for their big bow…

It was time for food…

And Santa joined us by surprise.  The kids were so excited to see him come in the door.  It happened to be snowing (finally) and it was a perfect entrance.  I can’t believe this is Jacob’s first encounter with the big guy.  Since the girls never liked sitting on his lap, we just never pushed Jacob to do so.  But he was so excited to actually meet him that I’m not sure he even realized he was on his lap!

The teachers took a family photo of us with Santa and we made a wreath ornament for on the tree.  Jacob was all about placing the different colors of tissue paper all around our picture.

It was such a fun hour.  Tomorrow…each of the girls has a party…at the same time.  Jeremiah is joining Mazie and Jacob and I are joining Jamie!

Ten on Tuesday

1.  Jacob received Uno Moo for a Christmas present from Pop Pop.  I totally recommend it to anyone with a preschooler (3-4 ish) at home!  I was able to play with him and we both enjoyed ourselves, even if the little stinker beat me…twice!

2.  You should check out the business blog for a yummy new cake.  Chocolate Ganache!

3.  We have 7 packages full of Christmas items to mail.  I think I will have 5 more too.

4.  Jeremiah is finished with his final paper and will be finished with his semester as of tomorrow.  Yep, that’s right, he is on Winter break as of tomorrow around noon.  That’s five weeks of my husband being home!

5.  God…please help me! 😉

6.  I’m only joking, of course.  I’m looking forward to getting our basement storage area cleaned out and organized and some other fun projects and my husband being home for 5 weeks!

7.  I am going to be busy with peppermint bark, peanut butter fudge, chocolate cookies, corn flake wreaths, and lots more for various parties this week.

8.  Jacob has a party where he and his classmates will be singing to us.  That’s on Thursday.  Jamie and Mazie will have their parties on Friday…at the same time.  So Jeremiah is going to Mazie’s and Jacob and I are going to Jamie’s.

9.  I have all of the kids’ and Jeremiah’s gifts wrapped and ready to rip open!

10.  I am looking forward to testing for my next belt in taekwondo on Saturday.  Maybe I’m looking forward to the pedicure I’m getting before.  Either way, I’m looking forward!

Happy Tuesday

Ten On Tuesday

1. Jeremiah and I went out overnight while my dad was here.  We went to the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park.

2.  It was amazing, aside from the ghost tour and then not sleeping because of every single noise I hear.  The views were amazing.

3.  At dusk, the elk just came right up to the front of the hotel…

4. See, we were there…5.  My dad was in charge of the kids while we were away.  Or maybe I should say I think he was in charge.  The house was still standing and the kids were alive.  That’s saying somethin’! 😉

6.  Remember all those birthday cakes from this past weekend?  Yeah, Dad couldn’t take his along.  So we were left with the bottom layer of his cake and half of my angel food.

7.  Have you seen the two train cakes I did for a customer this weekend?  Check it out here.

8.  Yeah, if you are keeping track, that was a lot of baking last week.

9.  I think I want a kindle or nook.  Anyone out there have one want to tell me what you think of yours?

10.  We watched A Charlie Brown Christmas tonight.  It was fun to snuggle with the kids and watch something I’ve watched so many times.  The only thing that would have made it better would have been if Jeremiah could have joined us.  He was at the academy working.  Maybe next time.

Happy Tuesday!

Birthday and Christmas

Saturday was my birthday.  So the kids (and Jeremiah and my dad) took me out to eat for an early supper but I had to open presents first!

When we got back we had an angel food cake made by my dear husband!  He did a great job even if it didn’t rise like it should have and I stayed out of kitchen.  I had a lovely day of relaxing and my family!

Since my dad left this morning, we decided to have Christmas with him last night so he could see the kids open their presents.

It was nice to be able to see him open our gifts too!

The kids are in a toy utopia right now.  I think the things they opened last night will hold them over until Christmas (I hope)! 😉

More on our visit from Pop Pop later.  Stay tuned!

Special Friday!

Today Jamie did her presentation on England in front of her class.  She did an awesome job.  She spoke about things she research about the country like their traditions, special holidays, different foods, etc.  Her visual aide was to show the class what an afternoon tea looks like.  So she had her little tea set all set up…

That picture cracks me up because everyone seemed to be enthralled with Jamie’s tea set!  She showed how they held the tea cups and told them why…

She then handed out scones to all the kids and her teacher.  Jamie told me after school that one of her friends said she had the best mom!  That was nice to hear.  She did a great job and was very pleased with herself.

Today also happens to be a special birthday.  My dad has been visiting since the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.  When he told us that he would be here over his birthday, the girls went to work on figuring out his birthday cake.  They really thought long and hard about what flavor it should be.  Finally lemon cake with lemon icing was the winner.  And so we worked together to figure out the design.  This is what the result was…

A 4 tiered cake (2 inch, 3 inch, 4 inch, and 6 inch rounds) that had some orange on it because that’s Pop Pop’s favorite color.  Oh and don’t forget the sparkler candles!

I was pleased with the outcome and it was yummy!  Jacob kept asking for the bottom layer…for himself !  Happy Birthday Dad.  We love you!

Ten On Tuesday

1.  Today I helped my dad buy Colorado!

2.  Really, he was Christmas shopping for the kids since we are having a Christmas celebration while he is here.  It will be nice for him to see the kids open their gifts from him.

3.  The kids are going to be very happy this weekend. 😉

4.  I am making a lego cake for Mazie’s robotics team tomorrow.  She is having one last meeting to talk about her competition and how the team did over all.  It should be fun!

5.  I am also making a special birthday cake for my dad since he will be here over his birthday.

6.  Did you know that I was born 36 minutes after my dad’s birthday?  Fun little bit of trivia.

7.  Jeremiah is determined to make my birthday cake this year.  Angel Food Cake is tricky here.  I am going to try to not interfere!

8.  I actually got some packages into the mail today!  By “I” I really mean Jeremiah did it on his way home from school.

9.  Jacob has been telling lots of stories lately.  His hand jesters and facial features are absolutely hilarious.

10.  How is December here already?

Happy Tuesday!

Thankful!

Our Thanksgiving was amazing.  First we had lunch in the living room while watching some football…

Snuggled a lot with people we love…

Had a delicious feast (yes I went overboard as usual)…

Then it was onto the fun.  Dad was apparently not too full to play on the floor and have kids jumping on him.  Seriously, at one point Jamie ran from one side of the room, hopped onto his stomach landing on her knees, and slid off laughing hysterically!

There was a little down time.  Typically whoever needed that little break snuggled with Pop Pop…

I had the camera so no one jumped on me 🙂 !  Dad was even musically inclined on Thanksiving night.  He played Wipe Out on the drums…

A trombone in the marching band…

Even a cello in the symphany…

You can see Jacob being a piano with Beethoven’s Fifth being played here

I am thankful for so many things.  My wonderful husband, my beautiful girls, my handsome son, (the fact that they are healthy, smart, and happy), and my family and friends (too many to list here).  I think it’s very clear that we are all happy that Pop Pop is here visiting…

I love my family and am very thankful to be so blessed.

Jacob’s Day

So we’re going to pretend that today is Friday because Jeremiah and I went out on a date and I didn’t have time yesterday to blog (more on our date later)!

Did you know that Jeremiah can play any instrument using the kids?  Well, he can and the instruments always sound wonderful.  For example, Jacob wanted Dad to play the piano.  So he assumed the position…

And Jeremiah started with Beethoven’s Fifth…

I think with next picture, you can really “hear” the piano playing…

It’s funny since Jeremiah has never had one lesson in his entire life!

Wednesday with Jamie

Jamie has been working on a project in school.  She is supposed to research England and do a presentation next week about what she found.  So today she practiced her presentation.  She is going to talk about the reason for the afternoon tea.

She set the table…

complete with napkins…

Poured the tea…

And taught Minnie Mouse how to hold the cup.  She said the little finger being out was to help prevent spilling the tea!

She also told me that the reason for even having the tea in the afternoon was because the Queen couldn’t wait for a small bite to eat between lunch and her late supper.  Her presentation is next Friday.  I think she is going to be awesome!

Mazie Monday

Mazie’s robotics team had their competition this past weekend at UCCS.  It was so amazing.  There were a total of 40 teams registered.  38 competed.  Check out what the Odyssey STEM cells had for their getups…

They made hats with bubble wrap and legos.  They were pretty neat.

This is the team presenting their research to the judges…

They also had a technical interview where they showed the different things their robot could do.  I wasn’t allowed to be in that part so there are no pictures for that.  Then there was practicing.  They had three separate practice competitions in the morning…

There were three official competitions after lunch.

It really was nail biting, let me tell you!

After the individual team competitions, the judges put the teams into groups.  Three teams joined together and competed as one team.  The team our team was apart of was called Alliance 6.

There were 13 alliance teams with three levels of competition.

There was also a little time to let off some steam.  The announcer for the day decided to lead the kids (and some coaches) in a little YMCA dancing.

Then it was onto the awards.  Mazie’s team was ranked 13th (out of 38) for the individual team competition.  Their Alliance team ranked 3rd of the 13 competing!  They didn’t advance to the next level of competition but they did a great job.  They were one of the youngest teams.  Most of the teams were mostly middle school aged kids!  So each of the teams received medals for just participating.  Here is Mazie running by the judges, giving high fives, to get her medal…

Mazie was completely exhausted by the end of the day but so happy that she was apart of it.  It was an amazing day!
